I was listening to BBC Radio Newcastle in the car today. Anna Foster was “sitting in” (for Jilly Hope) and was talking about (amongst other things) the BBC TV programme Rock Till We Drop. In this programme Martin Kemp and Lady Leshurr have to assemble a rock band to perform at the Isle of Wight Festival but all members of the band have to be over 64!
One of the people who was “discovered” by Martin and Lady L was Jimmy, a north eastern singer and musician (now resident in Spain) who had a history of “rockin’ out” with all manner of local bands in the 1980’s. There were snippets of interviews with him and discussion around a general topic of “you’re never too old to…” so I texted in and told them about Club 30-80.
The next thing I knew, I was called back by Producer Laura to ask if I’d like to go on air and talk about us, where we came from and what we get up to. So I did!
You can catch me at around 3:42 or 3 here.
If Anna does come along as promised I’m going to have to brush up on my “melodic techno”!
