Pick of the Pops on BBC Radio 2 is one of those programmes we never miss. It is concreted into our mental calendar. On Saturday afternoons from 1 – 3pm, Paul Gambaccini features the charts from two different years #OnThisDay.
The second chart from today’s programme was from March 1990. I was halfway through my degree at the time but wasn’t (to my memory) actively listening to the charts and considered them to be “rubbish” so it was funny listening to this programme today that I kept thinking “Oh my god, I LOVE this track!” to pretty much every song that was played*. The combination of tracks immediately transported me back to being 22 and probably a little too serious for my own good.
Note to self, chill out a bit!
* I STILL really don’t like Candy Flip’s Strawberry Fields Forever though!
