Club 30-80 is taking part in a charity fundraiser on 26th June 2020 at 7pm.
A few weeks ago Karen, a Club 30-80 regular, contacted me to ask how you go about putting on an online dance party. Karen is a member of Soroptimist International (Northern England branch), a charitable organisation which looks to “help improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally“.
She was looking for ways to fundraise for the Northern branch’s chosen charity Empowering Girls in Nepal, after the London Marathon had to be cancelled due to Covid 19. To paraphrase her words when I spoke to her:
“We are the Northern Branch (of Sproptimist International), I love Northern Soul, let’s have a Northern Soul Dance Party from the comfort of our own kitchens” Yay”.
I volunteered to DJ for her. We teamed up with Reflex Records in Newcastle who put the tunes together and contacted our friends at The Thursday Night Show (a group of DJs, VJs and techies who put on “a live Internet show combining Internet Radio and Artist Expos”) who agreed to host the show for us.
So, on the 26th June, I will be playing 26 Northern Soul stompers from 7pm over at The Thursday Night Show website. There is a “suggested” donation of £2.60 but obviously you can give as much as you would like.
We start at 7pm but there will be music before from the fabulous DJ Jan Travell and after from DJ A.Nu.Revolution if you want to keep on dancing (to the funky music).
Don’t forget to make a donation to their chosen charity, Empowering girls in Nepal. This fundraising will be done under the umbrella of the 2.6 Charity Challenge .
