Sometimes incidental sounds I hear going about my daily life act as musical triggers in my brain and I expect the sound to be followed by the song it has conjoured up in my head. Lots of times this (for some reason) is tied into the warning sounds made by doors closing on public transport…
One of the first of these I noticed was the on the Tyne and Wear Metro where the door closing tone is a fast repetitive monotone. It always makes me think of Messages by O.M.D.
