While DJing our Club 30-80 nights, you get to a point in the evening where you realise there isn’t enough time to play all the requests that are coming in.
Ironcally this tends to be just as club members are getting into the swing of putting their requests in. As a result, I have to cull certain tracks from the remaining songs on the playlist. When we reach half an hour before the end of the evening this can get quite tough. I want to play all of them but there simply isn’t enough time left.
One of the criteria that comes into play as I remove the tracks is how long they are, regardless of how much I want to play them. As a result of this I had to lose The B-52’s Rock Lobster, Prince’s Sign ‘o’ the Times AND New Order’s Blue Monday; all tracks I love. As a result of this, I have sought out shorter versions and have found “single edits” of both Rock Lobster and Blue Monday. This means these two particular tracks are less likely to get the chop from the playlist at the last minute but doesn’t solve the problem of making those final difficult choices of what songs to finish the set on!
Hmmm, maybe I have made the problem worse! Never mind eh?
