At the party the other night, one of the friends of the host told Rosie and me a lovely story about age, aging and music.
She told us about an old lady she used to live next door to her who was in her late 80s. This woman had been living with Alzheimer’s for some time but found solace in music. She could often be heard through the wall singing Tom Jones songs and in particular the lyric “Sex Bomb, sex bomb, you’re my sex bomb!” It was a really poingnant, heartwarming story that made us laugh; in a good way.
Music (and dancing) is a marvellously therapeutic force and studies have shown that music can make Alzheimer’s symptoms more manageable.
